Tom Holmes and Julia Rommel
Bureau is pleased to announce its participation at FIAC where we will present brand new works by artists, Tom Holmes and Julia Rommel.
Tom Holmes will present all new pieces that include two new bodies of work that continue in the theme of utilizing formal aspects and motifs of mass-produced objects to create comemmorative and funerary forms. Using cast concrete and the standard cinderblock, as well as imagery of a BooBerry cereal box and funerary floral arrangements, Tom creates his own formal visual language of "grave markers", "arrangements", and "shrouds" that transcend the throwaway qualities of culture it references.
Julia Rommel will present four new monochrome paintings that in their rich surface textures of thickly-applied, multi-layered paint on canvas often cut and re-stretched several times over, transform themselves into beautiful fetishized objects with subtle, but dense evidence of its former processes.
